New Year! New You!! New Hike!!! What better way to ring in the new year (and work off last night's party) than a refreshing hike at one of Tennessee's newest State Parks, North Chickamauga Creek Gorge?! Officially designated a state park this past September, North Chickamauga Creek Gorge has been hosting hikers, kayakers, and backpackers alike since 1999 as a state natural area. Home to one portion of the 300-mile Cumberland Trail, this state park boasts some of Southeastern Tennessee's most stunning views.

Join me on New Year's Day as we tackle a small hike.

This isn't your introductory hike. Expect steep inclines, rocky terrain, and high elevations. We will be taking it slowly along the 2-mile trip out and back to the overlook (for 4 miles).

If you want to start the new year on a thrilling note, register today and meet up with us!

HOST: Brad Bartman, Guest Ambassador | Michigan Ambassador

LOCATION: North Conway, NH

SUGGESTED LGBT OUTDOORS DONATION: $10

ACTIVITY FEE(S): Free

DEADLINE TO SIGN UP: December 29, 2024

MINORS ALLOWED: Yes

DOGS ALLOWED: Yes

Limit: 10

Join guest Ambassador Brad Bartman from Michigan on this NH LGBT+ Outdoors Event!

Mt. Moosilauke is one of the 48 4000-footers in New Hampshire. This will be our 2nd annual NYE hike on this beautiful mountain.

It's a difficult hike, but it's relatively one of the easier ones to do and a great mountain for a first 48 hike! ***This year we are doing a different trail, so we won't have the long trek across the windy ridge. ***

It will be a winter hike, so plan accordingly. Also, this will not be a turtle hike. We will take many breaks, but then we will keep going, both up and down. Stopping for too long endangers everyone in the group.

Hike plan and gear: We plan to begin our hike at 8:30 am at the trailhead. If you need some time to physically warm up and/or situate your gear, please plan accordingly. The recommended arrival time is 8:15 am. If you use All Trails, here is a link to the planned route: https://www.alltrails.com/trail/us/new-hampshire/mount-moosilauke-via-gorge-brook-trail The hike will be about 7.1 miles with 2,513 feet of elevation gain. It is mostly wooded, but there is an amazing view at the summit. Since this is a group hike, we will be staying together.

Join us for a hike up to the summit of Bull Hill (aka Mt Taurus), located right on the Hudson River in Cold Spring.

This is a 5.3 mile loop with 1400' elevation gain. The ascent to the top is steep, but we will have plenty of opportunities to stop on the way up, including an old quarry, and multiple views of Cold Spring, Breakneck Ridge, the Hudson river, and Storm King Mountain and West Point across the river. If we are lucky, when we reach the summit, we will be able to see New York City in the distance.

The descent down the other side of the mountain is much more gradual. Near the bottom, the trail passes through the old Cornish Estate, originally built in the early 1900s and destroyed by a fire in 1956. The estate included a large mansion, greenhouse, stables, garage and more. There is so much to explore and a nice reward at the end of the hike after climbing all the way to the top of the mountain.
